In Michigan on Sunday, usual suspects Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders led a rally called “Our First Stand: Save Health Care” intended to oppose President-elect Trump’s attempt to overturn and replace the Affordable Care Act.
People actually went out in freezing Michigan temperatures to listen to two known liars as they tried to convince them that government mandated health insurance is “health care.”
I am sure Schumer and Sanders did not bother to mention that, as members of Congress, they enjoy the benefits of the taxpayer-funded Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. In fact, over 90% of federal employees have rejected ObamaCare in favor of the FEHBP. But if the ACA is so great, why would they do that?
Turns out, it will cost them too much.
As a 2013 article in Forbes notes, “Highly paid members of Congress and their staffs make too much money to qualify for taxpayer-provided subsidies under ObamaCare, and therefore they would have had to foot the whole health insurance bill themselves, easily costing $15,000 to $20,000 or more for a family policy.”
The likes of Sanders and Schumer passed a law requiring you to purchase health insurance from health insurance companies, who do everything in their power to charge you as much as possible while providing as little coverage as they can get away with. Then, they opted out in favor of having taxpayers continue to pay for their much better government healthcare.
And these are the people we vote into office and refer to as “our leaders.”
Meanwhile, for those of us unable to opt-out of ObamaCare, premiums continue to soar. According to a 2016 Bloomberg article, “Premiums for mid-level Obamacare health plans sold on the federal exchanges will see their biggest jump yet next year…monthly premiums for benchmark silver-level plans are going up by an average of 25 percent in the 38 states using the federal HealthCare.gov website, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a report today. Last year, premiums for the second-lowest-cost silver plans went up by 7.5 percent on average across 37 states.”
Again, health insurance is not the same thing as healthcare, especially when you have a $5,000 deductible. As USA Today reported in October, nearly 7 in 10 Americans have less than $1,000 in savings. This means they probably can’t even afford to pay their insurance premiums, much less seek medical attention in all but life-threatening situations. And, if they can’t even afford to pay their ObamaCare premium, the IRS will levy a fine (that they are also unable to afford).
Back to that rally, where “Lisa Bible, 55, of Bancroft, Mich., said she has an autoimmune disease and high cholesterol. She said the existing law has been an answer to her and her husband’s prayers, but she worries that if it’s repealed her family may get stuck with her medical bills. ‘I’m going to get really sick and my life will be at risk,’ said Bible, an online antique dealer.” (Source)
I sympathize with Lisa’s condition, although high cholesterol is certainly something that can be managed on your own with proper diet and exercise. But I wonder, who does she expect to pay her medical bills, if not her and her family? Is she implying that the government (i.e. taxpayers) owe her something? Is she one of these lazy people who believes healthcare is a “universal right” and not a personal responsibility?
I assume that anyone who spent their Sunday listening to Sanders and Schumer pontificate about how wonderful ObamaCare is for all of us (but not them), has never seriously considered taking responsibility for themselves and being accountable for the decisions they make in their life. It has probably never occurred to people like Lisa that dependence on governments and leaders is the opposite of freedom and privacy. Government-mandated health insurance involves the collection and storage of a massive amount of highly sensitive and personal information, which will almost certainly be used against you in the future, either because it was hacked or because it was intentionally shared with someone, like a financial institution or potential employer. And when the government says you must to take these pills or that vaccine, can you honestly say you really trust them?
If the government wanted to ensure the health of its citizens, the FDA, EPA and other regulatory bodies would actually fulfill their mandates. Instead, they have been captured by the industries they purport to regulate, and we get unaffordable prescription medications, risky GMOs, dubious mandatory vaccines and toxic Flint water. Did anyone think government health insurance was going to be any better?
A significant portion of the U.S. population is hopelessly stupid. They are totally oblivious to what an absolutely horrible president Barack Obama has been. They have been utterly duped by a cult of personality that is little more than a media fiction. They are so ignorant as to believe that Obama is one of the greatest presidents ever. Thus, to repeal ObamaCare would be tantamount to admitting St. Barry is not infallible after all.
And how could anyone believe anything that Bernie Sanders has to say after the shameful election cycle last year? At best, Bernie allowed himself to be cheated out of the Democratic nomination and added insult to injury by acquiescing to and endorsing Hillary Clinton. At worst, he was willfully complicit in the whole affair. Either way, his credibility is totally shot, and he should do us all a favor by slinking back to Vermont with his tail between his legs.
The rally in Michigan is a perfect example of how the owners of America, the elites who view us as mere chattel, are able to manipulate us to act against our own best interests. ObamaCare is an utter failure. Its costs are crippling to the average American. Senior citizens and others with limited incomes are forced to seek medical care and prescription drugs in Mexico and other high risk locations. Only health insurance companies have benefited (profited) from it. As I have stated many times before, banks and insurance companies are the biggest perpetrators of fraud and scams in our modern world. And make no mistake: ObamaCare is the signature scam of the Obama regime.
People who actively oppose the repeal of the Affordable Care Act either work in the health insurance industry or are totally deluded, suffering from something akin to the Stockholm syndrome. Convincing Americans to fight against their own best interests is one way the elites trick the slaves into begging for the very chains that bind them.
